The Two Types of Social Security Benefits

Social Security Disability Benefits (SSDI)

Supplemental Security Income

There are two different programs available through the Social Security Administration: (1) Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits (SSDI); and (2) Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Each of these programs have different requirements but they both require the claimant to be "disabled" as defined by the Social Security Administration. SSDI requires that have "paid into" social security by working and paying taxes. SSI does not have this requirement, but SSI does require that you have very limited resources available to you.
